Umalusi Approves Release of Matric Exam Results 2022-2023 Despite Some Irregularities;- Umalusi have today approved the release of the 2022 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations. This is the final step before the official announcement of the results by the Minister of Education.

Umalusi believes the NSC examinations were largely in accordance with its policies and regulations. However, the body noted a number of irregularities. This, as some students had access to the certain question papers before they wrote the exams.
They said, ‘Umalusi notes incidents of unauthorised/early access to question papers detected at some of the examination centres in KwaZulu Natal and Gauteng. Specifically, Life Sciences and Agricultural Sciences papers were the affected subjects in those centres”.
Department of Basic Education (DBE)
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) will be required to block the results of learners who were implicated in any irregularities related to exams. These include learners who were involved in group copying.
Umalusi explained
Umalusi explained, ‘In the cases where candidates had unauthorised access to question papers, the results of the implicated candidates should be blocked pending further DBE investigations and Umalusi verification’.
Spokesperson for the DBE, Elijah Mhlanga revealed that investigations into irregularities are currently at advanced stages.
Mhlanga added that everything is in order for Minister Angie Motshekga to announce the results on Thursday 20 January 2022. He added that the department has done everything they could in order to support the learners and we should wait for the minister to reveal the results.
Umalusi have also revealed mark adjustments made to subjects.
Of the 67 subjects that were written during the 2021 NSC examination, 28 subject marks were adjusted upward and were adjusted mainly downward. Around 52% or 35 subjects were raw marks which remained the same.
