The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) is a member of the Standard Bank Group with its head office in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. NBC is the largest commercial bank in Tanzania and has a large branch network all over the country.
Its origins date back to 1967 when it was formed as a subsidiary of Barclays Bank. In 1969, Barclays sold its shareholding to Tanzanian investors who renamed the company “National Commercial Bank”. The following year it changed its name again to “National Commercial Bank Limited”, which today still forms part of its legal name.
