The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has announced that the registration process for the 2023 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) candidates has commenced. This is a crucial step for all candidates who are expected to sit for these exams in 2023.
Normal Registration Period
According to UNEB, the normal registration period for the 2023 PLE, UCE & UACE candidates is from April 1st to May 31st, 2023. During this period, candidates are expected to register with their respective schools or centers. The registration fees have been maintained at 34,000= for PLE, 164,000= for UCE, and 186,000= for UACE for privately sponsored learners.
Late Registration Period
For those who may miss the normal registration period, there will be a late registration period starting from June 1st to June 30th, 2023. However, candidates who register during the late period will have to pay an extra fee as a penalty for late registration.
Fees Payment
It is important to note that the government will pay for all candidates who are funded under the Universal Primary Education (UPE), Universal Secondary Education (USE), and Universal Post O’Level Education & Training (UPOLET) programs. On the other hand, privately sponsored candidates are expected to pay their own fees.
Candidates are advised to ensure that they pay the registration fees to the right accounts as indicated by UNEB. Candidates should also keep their receipts as proof of payment. Any issues with payments should be resolved with UNEB directly.
Preparing Bio-Data
To ensure a smooth registration process, heads of centers are advised to start preparing the correct bio-data of the candidates along with high-resolution digital photographs. This will help in the quick and easy registration of candidates.
Use of Birth Certificates and Result Slips
For the registration of PLE candidates, centers shall use the candidates’ birth certificates to avoid doubt regarding the date of birth. At UCE & UACE levels, the previous result slips shall be used.
Active Parental Participation
Parents are urged to actively participate in the registration process and ensure that the correct data at all levels is captured. Parents should make sure that the names, gender, and dates of birth of their children are correct. This will help in avoiding any complications during the exam process.
