Umalusi Launches Online System for Certificate Replacement. Umalusi, the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training, has launched a new online system for replacing lost or damaged certificates. This innovative system is accessible from anywhere, whether it be from home or office, via a cellphone or personal computer.
The council held a webinar titled “Innovatively Replacing Your Lost or Damaged Certificate Issued by Umalusi” on Thursday, 30 March 2023, to officially launch the new online application system for replacement certificates.
Reduced Turnaround Time and Costs
The new system has significantly reduced the turnaround time and costs involved in replacing a lost or damaged certificate. Candidates can apply directly to Umalusi and at a cost of R137.00, they can collect a replacement certificate within two working days of the application.
Alternatively, a candidate can pay R202.00 (R137.00 for the certificate and R65.00 for courier fees) to have the certificate sent within seven working days to their chosen physical address anywhere within the borders of South Africa.
Commendations Received
Participants in the webinar gave commendations to Umalusi for this important innovation. One of the attendees said, “I used the online application system for my lost certificate and received it”.
Someone from the university sector also commended the system, saying “Online verification of results will be very helpful to Universities during registration periods”.
Learning from Other Systems
Umalusi believes that learning from other systems helps in improving its own practice. During the webinar, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) also presented a similar system catering to all examination-related queries which has been in use in Kenya since July 2018.
Attendees
The webinar was attended by officials from education stakeholder organizations in South Africa, Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) and Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC). The presentations delivered during the webinar are accessible on the Umalusi website (www.umalusi.org.za).
Final Thoughts
The launch of the online application system for replacement certificates by Umalusi is a commendable step towards improving efficiency and convenience for candidates. The system has significantly reduced the time and cost involved in replacing lost or damaged certificates.
With this new innovation, candidates can now apply from anywhere and have their certificates delivered directly to their chosen physical address. The participation of KNEC in the webinar provides an opportunity for Umalusi to learn from other systems and improve its practice further.
