Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair was born on August 26, 1976, in Palakkad, Kerala, India. He grew up in a family of defense personnel and was inspired by his father, who was a retired Indian Air Force (IAF) officer.

Nair completed his schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya schools in various cities across India. After completing his schooling, he pursued a Bachelor of Technology degree in Computer Science and Engineering from NSS College of Engineering, Palakkad.

In 1999, Nair joined the Indian Air Force as a fighter pilot and underwent rigorous training to become a pilot. He has flown several aircraft, including the MiG-21, MiG-27, and Sukhoi Su-30MKI.

During his career in the Indian Air Force, Nair has received several awards and honors, including the Sword of Honor, which is the highest award given to a cadet at the Air Force Academy. He has also completed a course in Defense and Strategic Studies from the University of Madras.
