This is an achievement test for candidates who have successfully completed four years of secondary education.

Each year, CSEE is administered during the first week of November.
CSEE’s objectives
The purpose of this examination is to determine students’ abilities and knowledge in various secondary school subjects. Additionally, to assess the extent to which the student can apply the skills acquired to meet the social, political, economic, and technological challenges confronting the individual and the nation as a whole; to identify students with the capacity to continue learning through advanced secondary school and other learning institutions. The CSEE qualification requires the holder to be able to apply knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation skills across a broad range of activities.
Candidate Eligibility for Examination Seats
Any student who has completed four years of secondary education at a government-registered or non-government-registered school and has passed the form two secondary education examination or the Qualifying Test. Additionally, repeat candidates of the same examination who registered as private candidates.
Subjects/Coursework Examined
Civics, History, Geography, Kiswahili, English Language, Biology, and Basic Mathematics are the core and compulsory subjects for which a candidate is registered to sit for the CSEE. Additionally, the candidate may sit for two additional subjects from the following categories: natural science subjects such as physics and chemistry; business subjects such as commerce and bookkeeping; home economic subjects such as food and nutrition and textiles and dressmaking; and technical subjects such as building construction, architectural drafting, surveying, carpentry and joinery, brickwork and masonry, painting and sign writing, plumbing, electrical installation, and electrical engineering. No CSEE candidate shall register for more than ten subjects in a single sitting.

Examination for the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (ACSEE)
This program is available to candidates who have completed two years of secondary education (advanced level) and possess three CSEE credits.

ACSEE’s objectives
The purpose of this examination is to determine the learner’s knowledge and ability to pursue further education, such as diploma and degree programs; and to determine the extent to which the learner can apply the skills acquired to meet social, political, economic, and technological challenges confronting the individual and national development as a whole. As such, candidates at this level are expected to demonstrate the following abilities across a variety of activities: knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation.
Candidate Eligibility for Examination Seats
Candidates who have completed two years of secondary education (advanced level) and have earned three credits at the CSEE level are eligible to sit for this examination.
Subjects/Coursework Examined
The following subjects took the ACSEE: General Studies is a mandatory subject; the remaining subjects are grouped together, e.g., natural science, which includes Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM), Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB), Physics, Geography, and Mathematics (PGM), Economics, Geography, and Mathematics (EGM), Chemistry, Biology, and Geography (CBG), Chemistry, Biology, and Agriculture (CBA), and Chemistry, Biology, and Food and Human Nutrition (CBFN) (CBN). Another category is Arts Combinations, which includes History, Geography, and English (HGL), History, Geography, and Kiswahili (HGK), History, Kiswahili, and English (HKL), Kiswahili, English, and French (KLF), Economics, Commerce, and Accountancy (ECA), and History, Geography, and Economics (HGE).
