My.SMU is an essential application that provides vital functionality for students, faculty, staff and donors.
Students
Former students. Student my.SMU. Upon account creation, students are automatically given an SMU account. Students can view their personal and emergency contact information, register to AARO (if necessary), search for classes, enroll, drop/swap, view grades, and view financial aid packages.
Students can request Authorized Access accounts to their parents or for other people. This will create a login account and allow that person limited access to grades, bills, etc.
Employers
Faculty, advisors, staff. Employee my.SMU All employees receive an my.SMU account upon account creation. The employee role is automatically assigned to this account. This role gives access to benefits information, mail and phone information, as well as information about your paycheck. Individuals can make some personal data updates online. Others might need more access to make the necessary changes.
Faculty also automatically get the faculty role. Faculty members are automatically assigned the faculty role. They can access the Faculty Center to view class rosters, enter grades, and manage other features related to the courses they teach. Only courses that have been assigned to faculty members within my.SMU can be viewed by faculty members. These assignments are made in consultation with the department liaison.
Authorized my.SMU (Parent accounts).
Students are not allowed to share their login ID or password with anyone. To allow a parent/guardian to access their account, the student must request an account. The Help Desk cannot provide student credentials to anyone else due to FERPA restrictions. Parents will need to have an authorized account. These can be initiated by the student via my.SMU. The parent will receive a web link and an SMU ID number. To allow the student to log in, he or she will be given a PIN number. The Pin number and the parent’s ID can be used to set the password. The student has full control over grades, financial information, and any other information.
Administrative Accounts
For business purposes, faculty, staff and student workers may have administrative access to my.SMU data. Every request must be approved and assigned the appropriate role based on the information/features required for the business function. Most cases require some training before permissions can be granted.
Any request for my.SMU accounts, or modifications to permissions, must be made via the Online Support Center by an employee’s supervisor.
