Delta – Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages;-
Delta Module One Course
Delta Module One covers understanding language, methodology and resources for teaching, and focuses on the background to teaching and learning ESOL in a range of contexts. The main topic areas are: theories of language acquisition and teaching, along with different approaches and methodologies; language systems and language skills, together with learners’ problems with these; knowledge of resources and materials; and key concepts of language assessment.
Our course at IH Baden approaches these areas in a very practical way by drawing on your teaching experience, building on your current knowledge and extending it to cover the reach of the syllabus. We take a pragmatic view of the exam, and include both analysis and practice of individual exam tasks throughout the course.
You should come to the course with several years of teaching experience, ideally with a range of levels and contexts (for example, A2 to B2 or C1 general English classes, some exam or business English classes, etc). CELTA is not a prerequisite, but we would like you to have had some initial training (preferably with certification). There are regular homework assignments of exam practice and/or further reading.
