Sassa Payment Dates For September

The Department of Social Development on Thursday confirmed the payment dates for the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) grants for the month of September 2021.

Sassa social grant payments for September

  • Friday 3 September 2021: Older persons’ Grants
  • Monday 6 September 2021: Disability Grants
  • Tuesday 7 September 2021: All other grants
  • Older Person’s Grants – 3 September 2021
  • Disability Grants – 6 September 2021
  • Foster Care Grants – 7 September 2021
  • Care Dependency Grants – 7 September 2021
  • Child Support Grants – 7 September 2021

Unlike the grants listed above, the new temporary R350 grant does not have a set payment date. However, some successful beneficiaries started receiving their payments on 25 August 2021.

SASSA said it will continue to process applications, after it reported receiving nearly 9 million applications since 6 August. Applicants who have not yet received their payments have been urged to be patient and wait to receive an SMS from SASSA informing them about the success of their application.

When to collect your money

The decision to reinstate the monthly support grant comes after deadly civil unrest rocked parts of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng in July.

The R350 grant will continue to be paid out until the end of March 2022 and has been extended to eligible unemployed caregivers who currently receive a child support grant as well.

Payments can be collected from the South African Post Office (Sapo) from Monday.

No specific Sassa payment dates

In an earlier version of this article, we quoted Sapo as saying payments will be made according to the recipients’ ID numbers.

This after Sapo spokesperson Johan Kruger said the system – based on the last three digits of an ID number – was introduced to prevent overcrowding at branches.

However, Sassa said this is incorrect: “[The] information is false and NOT from Sassa. Payments for the special Covid-19 SRD grant will be made from 23 August, however, beneficiaries cannot be given a specific date.”

Any incidents of fraud should be reported to police, or directly to Sassa on 0800-601-011.

SASSA explained that there are thousands of applicants who have still not collected their payments due to various reasons.

“Outstanding payments are in the region of 45 414 (transactions) from approved but unable to trace applicants or they did not contact SASSA to update their personal details. A total of 571 724 grants approved remain uncollected at SAPO.”

Beneficiaries can call SASSA on 0800 601 011 or 012 400 2000 to verify if they have any outstanding balances that need to be collected.
