As the class of 2021 takes their final exam, many are hopeful that they will exceed their expectations. Their hard work throughout this year will finally pay off. No matter what challenges they have faced, the matriculants have done their best to reach their goals.

How to Get Your Results 

When the time comes will you know how to access your results? There are a few resources available to you, so you won’t have to anxiously wait.

Visit the Department’s Website: You can visit the Western Cape Education Department’s Website for your results. Access to the website will only be available from 2pm onwards.

Go to School: Go back to the place where it all happened – your high school. Your results should be ready for you from 12pm and you’ll be able to see your teachers and friends one last time.

SMS Service:  To get your results via SMS follow these simple steps:

  • SMS your ID number and examination numbers to 35658 or
  • Dial *120*35658# to register via USSD
  • You will receive an SMS and can then access your results. You can only view your matric results per subject by dialling *120*35658#

Newspaper: As per tradition matric results will be released via local newspapers. Search for your matric exam number and your results will be there. Why not buy a copy for everyone in the family to celebrate the good news?

Matric Symbols – What do They Mean?

To receive your National Senior Certificate (NSC), you will need to achieve 40% in 4 subjects and 30% in 3 subjects. Wondering what the symbols next to your matric results mean? Or would you like to know what you can do to get your desired symbol? Here’s what each symbol means and what their requirements are:

Higher Certificate Pass (HC)

This symbol means you may get provisional entry to study at a college for a higher certificate. You will get this symbol if you:

  • Meet the minimum requirements for a NSC
  • Get 40% for your Home Language
  • Obtain at least 30% for the language of learning and teaching (English or Afrikaans)

Diploma Pass (D)

Having this symbol next to your name means you can get provisional entry into any college or university for a diploma course. You will see this next to your name if you:

  • Meet the minimum requirements for a NSC
  • Get at least 40% for your Home Language)
  • Get at least 40% for four subjects
  • Obtain at least 30% for the language of learning and teaching (English or Afrikaans)

Bachelor Degree Pass (B)

A Bachelor’s Pass means that you get provisional entrance to study at a university and getting a degree. To get this you will need to:

  • Meet the minimum requirements for a NSC
  • Get at least 40% for your Home Language
  • Get at least 50% for four subjects.
  • Obtain at least 30% for the language of learning and teaching (English or Afrikaans)

I Failed Matric – What Should I do? 

Worried that your Matric Results 2021 Western Cape won’t be good? Remember failing matric doesn’t mean you won’t be successful with your future endeavors. Your success story has just begun. Here are your options to get your matric and further your education:

Re-Check

Not happy with your results? You can apply for an exam re-check. This is the most affordable way you can try to improve your marks. At just R27.00 per script, exam moderators will go back and calculate your scores to see if they missed anything. You can register for this option at your school or local district office.

Remark 

Mistakes can often occur in the exam marking process, even though the Department of Basic Education has strict rules moderators must follow to ensure quality work. If you think that this might have happened to your exam scripts, it’s worth giving this option a try. You may register for this option at school or your local district office.

Supplementary Exams

Supplementary exams is another opportunity that could help you improve your overall exam results. This exam should be taken within a year immediately after you have written matric

According to the Department of Basic Education, you qualify for supplementary exams if you:

  • Want to rewrite the subjects you have registered for in the November exams
  • Were absent for a valid reason (medically unfit, death in the immediate family or other special reasons) from one or more question papers
  • Want to improve your overall matric mark and final status
  • Asked your principal to submit a written report to the Head of the assessment body if you’ve missed one or more question papers for reasons other than the valid ones

Study Without Matric
