The matric results in the Eastern Cape have improved over the last few years. Unfortunately, there was a 8.4% drop from 76.5% in 2019 to 68.1% in 2020. The top-performing district in the Eastern Cape is Nelson Mandela Bay at an impressive 75.5% pass rate.

The national matric pass rate has steadily increased over the past five years. The biggest jump was from 78.2% in 2018 to 81.3% in 2019. But the pass rate for 2020 has dropped 5.1% to 76.2%. This result is still good considering how disruptive the year was.

How can I get my Matric Results 2022 Eastern Cape?
It has recently become a whole lot easier to access your matric results. There are many different ways such as the ones listed below.
School
The preferred way of getting your statement of results is going to the school or centre where you wrote your final exam. So, you will be surrounded by your friends and classmates as you receive the news. Your certificate will be printed and posted a few weeks later.
Newspaper
The Matric Results 2021 Eastern Cape will be posted in all major daily newspapers after it has been made public. You will need to know your exam number as names will not be posted. As a result, only your pass level, for example, B for Bachelor’s pass, will be displayed. No subject results will be printed.
Send an SMS
Register via SMS by sending your ID number followed by your name to 35658. After your registration has been successful you will receive a confirmation SMS. The cost of an SMS is R1.50. Free SMSes do not apply.
For IEB Results:
If you already provided your cell number, your results will be sent to you automatically. If not, you can register by sending ‘Results’ followed by your ID number and Date of Birth in an SMS to 35135. SMSes cost R3.

What are the Matric Pass Requirements?
The matric pass levels are split into three categories: Higher certificate, Diploma and Bachelor’s Pass. Each has its own set of requirements.
Higher Certificate
First of all, a higher certificate is a skills-based qualification. This means that a lot of focus is placed on how skills are applied.
To get a higher certificate, you need at least:
- 40% in your Home language
- 40% in two other subjects
- 30% for four other subjects
- to pass six out of seven subjects.
Diploma
With a diploma you can apply to study at a TVET College or University of Technology. Courses are usually shorter than a degree but it is much more practical.
To get a Diploma, you need at least:
- 40% for your Home Language
- 40% for three other subjects excluding Life Orientation
- 30% in the Language of Learning and Teaching (LOLT) of the tertiary institution (Higher Education Institution),
- to pass six out of seven subjects.
Bachelor’s Pass
With a Bachelor’s pass, you can apply to study towards a degree at a university, University of Technology, TVET college or any accredited Higher Learning Institution.
To get a Bachelor’s pass, you need:
- 40% for your Home Language
- 50% for four other subjects excluding Life Orientation,
- 30% in Language of Learning and Teaching (LOLT) of the tertiary (Higher Education) institution,
- 30% for one other subject,
- to pass at least six out of seven subjects.
