Students accepted into the B.Sc.(Ed) degree at DUCE must choose two of the following combinations for their two major Science subjects:

Entry prerequisites Explanation

Candidates who want to enroll in the aforementioned degree programs must meet the University of Dar es Salaam’s general minimum entrance requirements in order to pursue the various undergraduate degrees.

If an applicant possesses one of the following credentials, they will be eligible for consideration for admission to a first-degree program in our faculty:

a) Passing the Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (C.S.E.E.) or an equivalent exam with at least five recognized topics, three of which must have been completed at the Credit level, before taking the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (A.C.S.E. );

(b) Two principal level passes in relevant subjects at the A.C.S.E.E. or equivalent with a total of three subjects’ points of at least 5 (for programs in the arts) and 2 (for programs in the sciences) based on the following scale of 5 for A, 4 for B, 3 for C, 2 for D, 1 for E, 0.5 for S, and 0 for F.

(c) An suitable equivalent diploma with at least a Second Class/Credit level or a B grade from a college that has been given approval by the UDSM Senate and is completely registered by NACTE. Upper Second class or a B+ average is required for diplomas that are further divided into Upper and Lower classes.

Note: Before being considered for admission to the University of Dar es Salaam, applicants from nations with an 8-4-4 educational system must have completed at least one year of study at a university in their own nations.

(d) A minimum Mature Age Entry Examination (MAEE) score of 100, which must include at least a 50 on Paper I and a 50 on Paper II. The University of Dar es Salaam’s Direct/Equivalent Entry (MAEE) program was established to provide excellent Tanzanian students with the option to pursue a first-degree at the university even though they lack the credentials necessary to do so.

One must be 25 years of age or older on August 1 of the admission-seeking year in order to be eligible for the MAEE.
