The Presidential Youth Employment Intervention (PYEI) was announced by the President in his February 2020 State of the Nation Address (SONA), as a comprehensive response to the challenge of youth unemployment in South Africa.
The intervention includes five priority actions over five years to fundamentally alter the trajectory of youth employment, coordinated by the Project Management Office (PMO) in the Presidency.
It is a coordinated national plan of action that ‘aims to contribute towards a South Africa where youth are actively participating in the economy with greater dignity and a sense of agency over their contribution to society.
