When Phase 4 of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) will Begin

Phase 4 of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) in the basic education sector will begin in February 2023. The basic education department has reiterated the call for young people as part of the presidential youth employment initiative in the sector to take up job opportunities available to them.

This comes as the third phase of the project is due to conclude on 31 august 2022. The provincial education department in KwaZulu Natal has placed more than 50 000 young people as teaching and general assistants through the initiative during phase three.

During her visit to one of the schools in the province to assess the implementation of the third phase of initiative, the department’s Project Manager, Lala Matje said that ensuring that they surpass the outcomes of the third phase is their main priority.

The implementation of the first three phases it’s quite critical that we had to meet so that we are able to close on the achievements of phase 3 and also to plan on the exit pathways for the youth that are placed in phase 3 and we know that KwaZulu-Natal managed to place 57 000 young people in phase 3.

She went on to say that the department aims to ensure that they plan to avail as many opportunities as possible by the time the project concludes its current phase next month. Qualifying young people are encouraged to apply for opportunities made available through the initiative.
