Lesufi said for the first time this year the department has introduced a phased approach to managing the high volumes of applications.
“We normally open the registration process at the same time for grade 1 and grade 8, but we really believe it creates lots and lots of problems for the system. So, the first phase will open on 10 August, at 8 o’clock, and will close on 3 September 2023. The second phase will commence on 13 September at 8 o’clock and will close on 8 October at midnight.”

2024/2025 Online Admissions GP are divided into TWO PHASES:
- PHASE 1: Learners currently in Grade 7 in public schools (10 Aug – 3 Sept 2023)
- PHASE 2: Learners applying for Grade 1 and learners not enrolled in public primary schools in Gauteng applying in Grade 8 (13 Sept – 8 Oct 2023)
