The Early Admissions Exercise (EAE) for O-Level students is an admissions exercise that allows graduating O-Level students to apply for and receive conditional offers for admission to polytechnic based on their aptitudes and interests before taking their GCE O-Level examinations. It allows the polytechnics greater flexibility to select students based on broader measures of merit, beyond just academic grades.

Who May Apply

  • Singapore Citizens (SC) and Permanent Residents (PR) who have registered to sit for the GCE O-Level examinations in the year of EAE
  • International Students enrolled in government, government-aided and Independent Schools during the year of EAE application, and who have registered to sit for the GCE O-Level examinations in the year of EAE.

Applicants may select up to three courses in order of their preferences in their online applications. They are also required to provide a 600 characters write-up for each choice to detail their course-specific aptitude and interest.

Walk-in, email, and telephone applicants will not be accepted by MOE or the polytechnics.

The polytechnics will call up shortlisted applicants for further assessment, such as interviews and / or aptitude tests from 5 July to 31 August.

Steps to ensure your health and safety

This year, due to the COVID-19 situation and its safe-distancing requirements, TP will use video meeting platforms to conduct the EAE interviews, portfolio reviews and/or aptitude tests with shortlisted applicants.

If you are shortlisted, the course teams will contact and provide you with the necessary information on the following:

  • Date and time of the online interview, along with the session’s weblink (e.g. Google Meet or MS Teams).
  • Preparation of specific portfolio items, as well as submission instructions using online modes and/or depositories (e.g. Google Drive).
  • Date and time of any aptitude test, along with its weblink. Some courses may incorporate the aptitude test into the interview sessions by asking applicants some related questions instead.

Selection Process

EAE focuses on students who have strong aptitude and interest in a field related to the diploma course they are applying for. Students with outstanding achievements in sports, arts, leadership, entrepreneurship and community service can also be considered.

The modes of assessment will include portfolios, interviews and aptitude tests, where relevant and appropriate. Participation in relevant CCAs, Advanced Elective Modules (AEMs) and Applied Graded Subjects (AGS), as well as participation in activities such as work attachments and sustained involvement in projects that are related to the course students are applying for will also be considered.

Admissions Criteria

Applicants admitted through Early Admissions Exercise (EAE) are required to meet the following admissions criteria:

  • Net ELR2B2 aggregate score of 26 points or better for the GCE O-Level examinations; and minimum entry requirements (MER) for their respective diploma courses. The MER for each course can be found here. 
  • If the applicant does not meet the admissions criteria, his/her conditional offer will be revoked. Applicants will be able to apply for admission to a polytechnic through the Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE) using their GCE O Level examination results.

Application Results

  • Applicants may check their application outcome online through Early Admissions Exercise (EAE) portal from 7 September 2021, 2.00 pm till 10 September 2021, 11.59 pm. 
  • Successful EAE applicants are to accept or reject their offers online by 10 September 2021, 11.59 pm. A non-response will be deemed as a rejection of the EAE offer.
  • A student who accepts their EAE offer during the offer and acceptance stage is guaranteed a place in the polytechnic course, as long as they are able to meet the admissions criteria.
  • Once an applicant has accepted his/her EAE offer and meet the admission criteria, he/she will not be eligible to take part in the JAE and other polytechnic admissions exercise. He/she will also not be able to switch courses within or across polytechnic.
  • The student who accepts EAE offers should not concurrently accept offers from a Junior College (JC) via the Direct Schools Admissions (DSA-JC).

Withdrawal of Acceptance

Withdrawal of acceptance must be submitted online through EAE portal within the period from 13 September 2021 to 15 October 2021, 11.59pm. Students who have accepted an EAE offer but do not withdraw by the deadline will be deemed to have confirmed their acceptance and will not be eligible to participate in JAE and other polytechnic admissions exercises.
