Despite the festival being a tourism gold mine, after parliament ordered barring the social event, there has been a heated discussion among tourism industry stakeholders and government authorities. This came after several lawmakers voiced alarm over the event, claiming it serves as a breeding ground for sexual immorality.

Later, the Nyege Nyege Festival 2022 was given the green light by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, provided that it adhered to the standards set forth by the Directorate of Ethics and Integrity.
The approval came after a meeting with festival organizers and the relevant cabinet officials, which was presided over by Nabbanja.

Uganda’s 2022 Nyege Nyege Festival.
The Nyege Nyege Festival lasts how long?
Over 10,000 partygoers from around the world are entertained during the three-day event by artists from all over Africa. In East Africa, the Nyege Nyege celebration is quite popular. For three days, East African tourists pour into Jinja’s hotels, lighting up the city.
Come sun or come rain, there is constant activity at the poolside bars with colorful shirts, pants, and sunglasses.
How Does Nyege Nyege Operate?
Along with the music, Nyege Nyege features visual art pieces and provides other activities, like rafting and bungee jumping. Over 30 renowned and up-and-coming DJs and producers of electronic music participate in every edition of Nyege Nyege.
Over 200 performers from 30 different nations perform on the five stages from twilight till dawn for three days, showcasing some of the best and newest electronic and modern African music. The festival is active throughout the day as well, but there are significantly less attendees than there are at night.
Even so, there is usually something enjoyable happening, and music is heard everywhere. All areas are crowded with vendors selling local art, clothing for festivals in the African style, and famous “Rolex” from Uganda.
Where in the world is Nyege Nyege?
The new venue for the Nyege Nyege event in 2022 is Itanda Falls in Jinja, and it will take place from September 15 to September 18, 2022. By moving to a new location, Nyege Nyege will give adventurers a more pleasant and roomy experience and promote Itanda Falls as the most exciting tourist destination.
This year, we will also include additional activities like rafting, quad bikes, workshops, sunset cruises, and significantly better camping facilities, according to the organizers. We need to provide visitors with a top-notch, secure, and comfortable camping experience if we want the festival to go beyond Jinja’s lodging capacity.
How many individuals go to Nyege Nyege?
Over 10,000 thousand revelers from all over the world attend the Nyege Nyege festival. The organizers claim that attendees will delight in music, Afro-fusion foods, and local and foreign beverages.
The 2022 Nyege Nyege Festival will also investigate a hybrid combination of both online and offline events. This virtual reality experience and exhibition of digital art is based on the Covid hybrid edition of 2020. Over 40 collectives were represented in the highly regarded hybrid edition, which attracted about eight million viewers.
Describe Nyege.
The Nyege Nyege festival, held annually in Uganda, honors music from across the globe and from Africa. They promote the festival as one where attendees can have as much fun as they want by using the Luganda word ekinyegenyege, which literally translates to “uncontrollable need.”
Who Is Nyege Nyege’s Owner?
Derek Debru and Arlen Dilsizian, two pals, co-founded the company Nyege Nyege. Nyege Nyege Tapes, a record label, a studio, and a festival are all brought together by the festival.
During the Nilotica Drum Ensemble’s performance, Debru and Dilsizian got to know one another. The ensemble is well-known for their traditional dances and performances with loud, thudding drums.
Festival of Nyege Nyege.
These performances gave the two the inspiration to organize events that would allow artists like Nilotica to gain recognition since their music was not being played on Ugandan radio stations.
This led to the creation of the record company Nyege Nyege Tapes, which has signed Ugandan musicians that specialize in techno and folk music.

WHEN DOES THE FESTIVAL START AND END?
The festival dates and times are as follows:
OPENING: Thursday 2pm September 15th 2022.
CLOSING: The music stops on Monday Morning 8am September 19th 2022. Festival Goers need to vacate the festival site by 11am September 19th 2022.
TICKETING GATE CLOSES on Sunday at 1pm : 18th Sept 2022. Thereafter only individuals with a wristband are allowed to enter and leave the festival ground.
Campers need to vacate the site by Monday 11am September 19th 2022.
The NYEGE NYEGE Campsite opens from 2pm – Thursday 15th Sept 2022.

HOW DO I APPLY TO SELL MY PRODUCTS AT THE FESTIVAL?
Submit your application form during the vendor application period on our website. Vending slots close on August 10th 2022. Only successful applicants will be contacted and will then be required to pay the stall fee to secure a space at the festival. Late applications will not be considered.
WILL I BE ABLE TO BUY FOOD AND DRINKS AT THE FESTIVAL?
A wide variety of food and alcoholic as well as non-alcoholic beverages will be available for the duration of the event, supplied by various vendors at the festival. PLEASE NOTE: You are not permitted to bring your own food or beverages into the festival arena.
WILL THERE BE VEGETARIAN/VEGAN FOOD AT THE FESTIVAL?
Yes, you’ll be able to get your fill of all kinds of tasty foods from the Global Food Village suitable for all types of diets.
WILL THERE BE ATM FACILITIES AVAILABLE?
Yes, however it’s suggested that attendees come prepared to avoid any inconvenience or disappointment due to technical issues or queuing.
WILL THERE BE FIRST AID OR MEDICAL SERVICES AVAILABLE ON SITE?
Yes, First Aid services are available on site. Please alert any member of staff immediately if you require emergency medical services.
WILL THERE BE ELECTRICAL OUTLETS OR CHARGING STATIONS FOR MOBILE PHONES?
Mobile charging stations are catered for in the main festival arena as well as official Nyege Nyege festival campsites.
I WILL BE ATTENDING THE FESTIVAL BUT NOT CAMPING ON SITE. CAN I GET ACCESS TO THE CAMPING SITE?
No. Only people with camping wristbands will be allowed into the campsite. No exceptions!
IS THERE PARKING AT THE FESTIVAL?
Yes the community around the festival provides safe parking for about 10’000 ugx per day. Most of the parking spots are around a 3- 8 minute walk from the festival entrance. Tickets for East African citizens (these include citizens of Uganda/ Kenya/ Rwanda/ Tanzania/ Congo DRC/ South Sudan / Ethiopia) and Ugandan residents (requires proof of residency permit).

WHAT IS THE REFUND POLICY?

WHY SHOULD I KEEP ANYONE FROM SEEING OR PHOTOGRAPHING THE QR CODE ON MY TICKET?
The QR code is a security measure that validates your ticket. The first person to use that QR code to enter the festival will be considered the valid ticket holder, so if someone copies or photographs your QR code, you could become a victim of fraud.

WHAT’S NEW FOR 2022?
Nyege Nyege are delighted to announce an amazing new home for the Nyege Nyege Campsite, the ‘Beachfront Camp and Retreat’. Camping at Nyege is divided into 4 Zones:
- Bring Your Own Forest Camp
- Rapids View Camp Pre Set Up Tents
- Purple Pine Camp Pre Set Up Tents
- Wooden Cottage Village
The ‘Beachfront Camp & Retreat’ is on a beautiful forested river front stretch within the festival site with amazing vides of the ITanda Waterfalls and sunsets over the river. The campsite is about a 5 minute walk along the river from the Main stage, yet far away enough to have peace & quiet from the music. The campsite is in full shade from the trees so yo can sleep comfortable during the day.

WHAT ARE THE CAMPSITE OPENING AND CLOSING TIMES?
The NYEGE NYEGE Campsite opens from 2pm Thursday, 15th September 2022.
Campers need to vacate the site by Monday 11am, 19th September 2022.
Campers can check in from 2pm on Thursday, 15th September 2022.
The Check-in desk opening times for 2022 are:
- Thursday 14:00 until 02:00 am
- Friday 9:00 am until 02:00 am
- Saturday 9:00 until midnight.
Arrivals outside of check in desk times will need to remain with their vehicles and check in when desk re-opens.
CAN I PARK MY CAR NEXT TO MY TENT?
It is not possible to park your car next to your tent. However there is safe parking provided by the community just outside the festival gate.
IS THERE ELECTRICITY ON THE ‘NYEGE NYEGE BEACHFRONT CAMP AND RETREAT’?
There is lighting in each section of the Campsite, but we do recommend that you bring a torch with you.
There are no plug-in electricity points on site. However, if you want to charge your phone or camera you can do so for a small fee at the Information Desk which is situated next to the Campsite Café.
ARE GENERATORS PERMITTED?
No, generators are not permitted in any sections of the Campsite. The campsite is lit in key areas after dark and cell phone charging service is offered at the Info Desk. Generators make considerable noise and give off fumes so impact negatively on fellow campers.
IS THERE SECURITY AT THE CAMPSITE?
Yes, security is vital to us. The campsite, main access points and gates will all be manned by security. Each zone is assigned a specific wrist band to ensure that only those campers that are eligible to can access each zone.
In terms of personal items, we recommend that you bring only the items you really need. Please keep your valuables with you. If you would like to store your valuable items in a safe and secure place there are lockers available for hire at the information desk.
ARE THERE SHOWERS AND TOILETS IN THE CAMPSITE?
Yes, each campsite section has access to its own designated showers and toilets.
HOW DO I BOOK MY CAMPING TICKETS?

Groups over 20 pax should contact camping@nyegenyege.com to make their arrangements.
WHERE DO I COLLECT MY CAMPSITE WRISTBAND?
Camping wristbands must be obtained from the Nyege Nyege Beachfront Camp and Retreat’ Check-In Desk at the entrance of the camping. Please bring your tickets in a printed format to the check-in desk.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I LOSE MY WRISTBAND?
Your wristband is your responsibility and it is not possible to replace lost wristbands. Please take good care of your wristband.

CAN I SELL BEVERAGES AT THE FESTIVAL?
Apart from alcoholic beverages, water and sodas you can sell beverages. Eg Fresh Juices, Coffee, teas etc.
HOW DO DELIVERY VEHICLES ACCESS THE FESTIVAL WITH MY STOCK?
Accredited delivery vehicles will be able to deliver your stock to the trader parking lot, from there you will have to use your vehicle that has access inside the festival with your trader parking sticker, to bring your stock to your stall. Due to high traffic volume, each trader vehicle has a maximum of 20 mins to unload before having to return to the trader parking lot. Please use the access roads.
