Dattajirao Gaekwad was born on January 4, 1929, in Baroda, India. He was the son of Maharaja Pratapsinhrao Gaekwad and Maharani Shantadevi Gaekwad. He received his education from the Baroda College and played cricket for the Baroda Cricket Association.

In 1952, Dattajirao Gaekwad made his Test debut against England at Lord’s. He played 11 Tests for India, scoring 214 runs at an average of 16.46. His highest Test score was 52, which he scored against Pakistan in 1952.

Dattajirao Gaekwad was also a successful businessman and owned several businesses in Baroda. He was the chairman of the Baroda Rayon Corporation and also served as the president of the Baroda Cricket Association.

Dattajirao Gaekwad passed away on February 13, 2024, at the age of 95. His final rites were performed at the Kirti Mandir, the site of the royal Gaekwad family’s funeral.
