Volunteer – Nurse Midwife Job Vacancy at Maternity Africa July, 2024

Maternity Africa is a Christian-based, donor-supported, not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing fistula treatment and quality maternity care for marginalized women throughout Tanzania. Our mission is to make childbirth safe and demonstrate the love and compassion of Christ to all, regardless of race, religion, or ethnicity. We operate from the Kivulini Maternity Centre outside the city of Arusha in Northern Tanzania.

About the Role

We are seeking a Volunteer – Nurse Midwife for a one to three-month position with an allowance. This role is ideal for a kind, skilled midwife who is committed to continuous professional development and enjoys working with patients.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Clinical Duties: Ensure compliance with day-to-day clinical duties in the clinic, wards, delivery suite, and theatres.
  • Documentation: Adhere to documentation and data collection systems, ensuring accuracy, including filling MTUHA and other register books.
  • Waste Management: Ensure clinical waste is disposed of appropriately.
  • Health Education: Provide health education advice to antenatal and postnatal women and families, including family planning counseling and advice.
  • Deliveries: Conduct normal and abnormal deliveries (e.g., twins and breech) independently.
  • High-Risk Care: Care for high-risk patients (e.g., twin, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, BOH).
  • Emergency Management: Perform assisted deliveries in emergencies and manage obstetric emergencies (e.g., administration of MgSO4, management of PPH, shoulder dystocia).
  • Rotations: Work in rotations across all clinical departments.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Take on any other roles and responsibilities as defined by the management team.

Key Qualifications, Specifications, and Experience

  • Education: Minimum qualification of a Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery or in Midwifery.
  • Registration: Must be registered by the Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council and possess a current practicing license.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge: Good understanding of Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council guidelines, policies, ethics, and procedures. Training in CeMOC or Bmoc is an added advantage.
  • IPC and 5-S: Knowledgeable in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and 5-S.
  • Personal Attributes: Kind, team player, and able to work under minimum supervision.
