About the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) was established as an independent public office by Government Notice No. 49 dated February 13, 2018. The DPP is constitutionally empowered to oversee criminal justice in accordance with Article 59B of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania (1977).
The DPP is responsible for ensuring justice is served, preventing the misuse of judicial processes, and safeguarding public interests under Section 8 of the National Prosecution Act No. 27 of 2008.
Available Positions
- State Attorney Grade II (60 Positions)
- Key Responsibilities:
- Handling simple criminal cases.
- Prosecuting minor appeal cases in the High Court.
- Preparing charge sheets, applications, and other related documents.
- Addressing complaints against the Office of the DPP.
- Managing witnesses before, during, and after court proceedings.
- Reviewing case files from investigative bodies.
- Conducting research in criminal case management.
- Collecting and analyzing criminal case statistics and preparing reports.
- Qualifications:
- Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (Form VI).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a government-recognized university.
- Completed Practical Legal Training from an accredited institution.
- Salary Scale: AGCS. 3
- Key Responsibilities:
- Law Secretary Grade II (20 Positions)
- Key Responsibilities:
- Receiving court records related to criminal cases.
- Maintaining a diary of court hearing dates and submitting relevant documents to the court and involved parties.
- Following up on documents required in criminal cases.
- Opening case files as directed by the supervisor.
- Reviewing and preparing a list of case files to be opened.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Qualifications:
- Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (Form VI).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a government-recognized institution.
- Salary Scale: AGCS. 3
- Key Responsibilities:
General Conditions
- Eligibility: Applicants must be Tanzanian citizens aged not more than 45 years, except for those already employed in the public sector.

- Applicants educated outside Tanzania must have their certificates verified by relevant authorities (TCU, NECTA, NACTE).
- Retired public servants are not eligible unless they have explicit permission from the Chief Secretary.
