In 1995, Iringa University College was established at Tamini University, and it arose under the name of Iringa Lutheran College and Seminary. In 1997 it began offering undergraduate degree, diploma and degree programs. It operated as a university college for eighteen years and distinguished itself as the first private university in Tanzania.
Alumni of this university became notable throughout the country in the Lutheran Ministry, Law and Business. Additionally, Al-Tamini is well represented in the Ministries of Education, Arts, and others. Tumaini graduates hold importance throughout the Tanzanian industry. On 25 October 2013, University College Iringa became the full-fledged University of Eringa (UoI). Under the auspices of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania. The university boasts of highly trained and experienced faculty from Tanzania and countries around the world.
