Marriage Story ’(2019)

The dramatic drama of Noah Baumbach, in the style of Bergman, is the story not of a marriage, but of its ending: of a loving couple who, as they say, separated, but whose decoupling is not so organic. Its change of priorities and geographical preferences causes the hiring of lawyers, the expense of savings and the declaration of old resentments and regrets that are not best said. Baumbach’s script is full of small human touches and elegant tonal changes; He can go from comedy to screw the drama of open wounds in the blink of an eye. “It’s fun and sad, sometimes within one scene,” writes A.O. Scott, “and weaves a plot of the messy collapse of a shared reality, trying to make music from the lack of harmony.” (If you like this spiny comedy/drama, queue at the Oscar winner “As Good because it Gets”. “)

“Bling’s Ring” (2013)

Sofia Coppola acquires a conspicuous consumption, millenary malaise and high class rights in this darkly funny and stylish real story that invites reflection (adapted from an article by Vanity Fair by Nancy Joe Sales). Emma Watson leads a team of rich and attractive young people who spent years helping the homes (and loot) of their famous neighbors, partying in the “nightclub” of Paris Hilton and casually raising the jewels of Lindsay Lohan. Coppola refuses to condemn his crimes or apologize for them; is, A.O. Scott wrote: “Neither a warning story about youth that went wrong nor a joke at the expense of children these days.”

“Rachel Getting Married” (2008)

The story of the return of a child with problems home for a large family event is not exactly told. But Jenny Lumet’s script is full of highly observed details and emotional truths, which director Jonathan Demme brought to life. And the performances are amazing: Rosemarie DeWitt’s work because the bride easily conveys the past years tolerating and apologizing for her sister, while Hathaway may be a wonder, raw and stormy, perpetually and precariously balanced between staying together and melting. “It has an undeniable and authentic vitality,” wrote A.O. Scott, “an exuberance of spirit, that feels welcome and bizarre .”
