Load shedding

Eskom will implement phase 2 cargo shedding from 9:00 p.m. on Thursday until 6:00 a.m. on Friday due to depletion of emergency resources, the power company said in a statement Thursday afternoon.

“We’ve been using pump storage schemes and open-cycle gas turbines in recent days to complement capacity, and we need to replenish them overnight,” he said.

“The risk of loss of charge from stage 2 remains for tomorrow (Friday) until the weekend, but we will review the state of the system and communicate tomorrow morning.”

Unplanned interruptions were slightly reduced to 12,683 MW at 1:30 pm, against the company’s target of 9,500 MW.
